There was a new addition to my road. Rafael Benitez, the new Liverpool FC manager was now a resident.
I had seen him with his wife a few times with his two kids, one in the push chair, and one, about three, holding his dad’s hand.
Today though, there was just the one child. The smallest one, and he was being carried by Rafa as his wife came after him, with tears in her eyes.
As I continued down the street, I saw a child stood on its own outside one of the houses. The child was the eldest of Rafa’s. A neighbour who happened to be passing told me that actually this child wasn’t really Rafa’s at all, but his wife’s from a previous marriage.
Then something odd happened. The neighbour continued to talk to me and told me that actually Rafa didn’t want the child anymore, the intimation being, that because it wasn’t his, he wasn’t interested.
